Digital Economy Blueprint Presentation to Health Sector Officials

Fruitful and inspiring event held recently at the Department of Government Information Auditorium!
With several officials also joining virtually via Zoom, the session was marked by the official presentation of the “Digital Economy Blueprint” for Sri Lanka by Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Chief Advisor to the President on the Digital Economy and Chairperson of ICTA. The event brought together key leaders from the health sector, including the Hon. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Health and Mass Media; Hon. Eng. Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy; Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Health; Mr. Waruna Sri Dhanapala, Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy; Prof. Vajira Dissanayake, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo; Mr. Sanjaya Karunasena, CEO of ICTA; Mr. Bandula Ranathunga, ICTA Board Member; and Dr. Palitha Karunapema, Head of the Health Informatics Unit, MoH.

This milestone event showcased the nation’s strategic roadmap toward a digitally empowered economy, aiming for transformative “Digital Uplift” and enhanced global competitiveness.
The session began with a warm welcome by Dr. Anil Jasinghe, followed by Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya’s comprehensive and insightful presentation. Key focus areas included ambitious goals for achieving USD 5 billion in digital exports, significant expansion of the digital workforce, and elevating Sri Lanka into the 2nd–3rd quartile of global digital indices. He emphasized a “Whole-of-Economy” approach, underpinned by inclusion, trust, and a strong digital infrastructure.

The hybrid format enabled broad participation, with over 80 officials joining online, contributing to a highly interactive Q&A session. Engaged and thoughtful audience interactions were a true highlight of the event. Dr. Hans, joined by the Deputy Minister, Secretary of MoDE, and ICTA Board Members, addressed queries with clarity and depth, reinforcing the collaborative spirit behind this national initiative.

The session also highlighted how the health sector can play an integral role in contributing to and benefiting from Sri Lanka’s digital transformation journey.
