Digital Government Forms
The Digital Government Forms project, initiated in 2021 and currently in operational status, is a significant stride towards modernizing and streamlining government service delivery in Sri Lanka. Recognizing the necessity for a more accessible and efficient system, the government set out to create a digital platform, forms.gov.lk, aimed at providing citizens with remote access to various service request forms. The aim is to revolutionize how citizens interact with government organizations by enabling them to access and submit forms online, reducing the need for physical visits and paperwork.
The project's core objectives include developing a user-friendly digital solution to host existing government forms, promoting efficiency by minimizing paperwork and human resource involvement, facilitating data analysis for informed decision-making, and sharing crucial national information with citizens.
The platform's scope involves thorough awareness sessions for government organizations, illustrating that the shared solution is provided free of charge by the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA). The organization offers support in digitizing manual forms and engaging with the platform. The target audience encompasses both government organizations and citizens. Government bodies will utilize the platform to digitize and make their services accessible online, while citizens will benefit from the ease and convenience of accessing government forms remotely.
Key milestones achieved include the establishment of the Digital Government Forms platform and successful onboarding of 10 organizations during the pilot phase, with plans to expand to 40 organizations during the rollout phase. In December 2022, the successful completion of the pilot phase marked a crucial milestone in the project's journey.
The outcomes of the Digital Government Forms project encompass increased availability of government services online, facilitated by the platform (forms.gov.lk). By digitizing manual forms and providing a digital solution, citizens can access government services conveniently and efficiently. The project has led to a rise in digital transformation among citizens, encouraging them to utilize the digital platform for public service interactions with government organizations. Furthermore, it has contributed to the growth of public service delivery by government organizations through streamlined and accessible digital solutions. The project's future sustainability and success are contingent on continuous funding and government policies promoting digitization.
