Central Cultural Fund - e-Ticketing System for Heritage Sites - Online and Counter application for Sigiriya
The e-Ticketing system for heritage sites, particularly focusing on Sigiriya, represents a collaborative effort between the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) and the Central Cultural Fund (CCF). Launched in 2016, this pioneering project aimed to modernize the ticketing experience for visitors to one of Sri Lanka's most treasured cultural landmarks.
Initiated by ICTA in partnership with CCF, the project sought to introduce an automated ticketing system that would offer enhanced convenience to both local and foreign visitors. The overarching objective was to leverage technology to streamline ticket purchasing processes while simultaneously enriching the visitor experience at Sigiriya.
The primary goal of the project was to develop and implement an e-Ticketing platform that would cater to the diverse needs of visitors. By providing online ticketing solutions, the system aimed to eliminate the hassle of queuing at ticket counters, enabling visitors to purchase tickets conveniently from their computers or mobile devices.
In addition to simplifying ticket purchases, the e-Ticketing system aimed to provide a range of e-Services designed to enhance the overall visitor experience. These services included interactive guides, multimedia presentations on Sigiriya's historical significance, and virtual tours of the site, all accessible through the online platform.
Collaboration between ICTA and CCF was instrumental in ensuring the successful implementation of the project. From the initial planning stages to the system's launch, both organizations worked closely together to develop a robust and user-friendly e-Ticketing solution tailored to Sigiriya's unique requirements.
The outcomes of the project have been transformative, with visitors to Sigiriya benefiting from a more streamlined and convenient ticketing process. By embracing digital technology, ICTA and CCF have not only improved operational efficiency but have also enhanced the overall visitor experience, positioning Sigiriya as a leading cultural destination in the region.
Looking ahead, the sustainability and success of the e-Ticketing system for heritage sites depend on continued collaboration between ICTA and CCF, as well as ongoing maintenance and updates to the platform. By leveraging technology to preserve and promote Sri Lanka's cultural heritage, both organizations remain committed to ensuring that future generations can continue to appreciate the wonders of Sigiriya and other historic sites across the country.
